CLIFTONS CAFETERIA

Andrew Meieran

HISTORIC RESTORATION -

SIGNAGE, FRONTAGE, TRIMS

CANOPY RESTORATION

ILLUMINATED NEON SIGNAGE

INTERIOR WAY FINDING NEON

Restoring the signage, frontage and canopy for Clifton's Cafeteria has been a major milestone for downtown Los Angeles and oneone77 studio.  The oldest surviving cafeteria style eatery in Los Angeles, founded in 1931 by Clifford Clinton, thus "Clifton's", comes alive with it's exciting array of neon, aged patina panels and LED vintage style bulbs under the canopy.

oneone77 worked closely with Andrew Meieran who provided detailed artistic direction on the historic restoration - taking his artistic instinct, eye for accuracy, - exacting to his expectations, and expecting nothing less.  oneone77 was tasked with making sure the tone, texture, patina of the facade, the panels, signage, marquee matched the age of this historic establishment.  We accomplished by referencing historic photos and fabricating the design with aluminum to meet the clients budget - and laying down thick bronze metallic paints

The opportunity for oneone77 to provide our services to restore the frontage; entry canopy, the planters, the trims, all the signage and neon inside and out, to also moving the oldest working neon in the world gave us immense sense of gratification to be a part of this legendary establishment and being a part of living history!

ONEONE77 SUCCESFULLY MOVEDTHE OLDEST WORKING NEON IN THE WORLD!

Tasked with moving the oldest continuously lit neon (perhaps electronics) in the world - proved to be a daunting assignment!  The objective was to move the once neon-illuminated light box for advertisement originally nestled into a  in the mens restroom approximately 25 feet to an adjacent wall that is accessible by the public, while keeping the neon illuminated and on, during the entire process!  With careful planning and nerves of steel, the 1177 crew accomplished this very challenging task for Andrew and the Clifton's family.
